Express Barista Course at Frances King

Posted under on

Frances King launches an Express Barista Course in 2026.

The course is principally aimed at students with a YMS (Youth Mobility Scheme) visa, to help them get an entry level job, but is open to all. At present this visa is restricted to a few countries (Hong Kong, Japan, San Marino, South Korea, Taiwan and Uruguay), but it is hoped that it will be open to EU sometime next year.

The course consists of a mix of classroom lessons and practical lessons on a coffee machine (in the school café), 10 sessions in all spread over 2 weeks. The practicals are taught in 1 to 2 sessions.
Classroom lessons include an introduction to coffee and the barista role; vocabulary for types of coffee; and “café English” – speaking and listening skills in a café setting.

Coffee machine lessons include making a variety of different types of coffee; operating, cleaning and maintaining coffee machines; how to foam and texture milk; and coffee art.

Our teacher is a coffee enthusiast and operates the café at the school. We are lucky to have excellent coffee. He roasts his own coffee beans and sells online. The first course starts on March 16.
The course is just one of the support services offered to YMS students. We also offer a Job Club to help students find paid work, unpaid internships for professional purposes and volunteering positions in charities.
