Cork English College

About

About

At Cork English College (CEC), we’ve been helping students from all over the world learn English since 1978.

Founded by Valery Cullen and still proudly family-run by her son Marc, CEC combines a warm, personal touch with top-quality teaching and student support.

So far in 2025, we’ve welcomed students from 55 different nationalities, and since we opened our doors, over 90,000 learners, adults and juniors, have chosen CEC as their language learning destination.

Our school is based right in the heart of Cork city, spread across three beautiful, historic buildings. One sits proudly on Patrick’s Hill, offering panoramic views, while the others enjoy stunning riverside locations along the River Lee.

Testimonials

“I feel that I have gained more confidence in my speaking skills during the last four weeks of classes. Reviewing and organizing the notes after class is very important to me. I can use my free time to review every night. Every time I saw my weekly test scores improve, I felt a sense of achievement. ‌ The teachers and classmates in class are very friendly. Every week the teacher will also tell me the areas of what to improve and what I improved. ‌ When I just arrived in Cork, I knew nothing about the environment. I could choose to take the afternoon classes to improve my English skills. I also like to participate in school activities on Fridays and Saturdays. Especially when I am not familiar with the city, so I can get to know more people. There are also many different places to visit and churches around the school. It makes my life more interesting. ‌ I learned about the major off interior design. It makes me more interested in the castle and the buildings in Ireland. I can see more buildings when taking the bus traveling around the city. I will be able to have some Irish-style interior design projects. ‌ It was a special experience for me. Even if it only takes one month, but it’s already the longest travel I have ever taken. I’m really happy to have such a nice experience in the year 20.”

“I had the chance to study English at CEC for half a year which I will cherish. With the assistance of the CEC community – its compassionate teachers, activity leaders, administrative personnel as well as my inspiring classmates. I managed to raise my proficiency of English from a B2 to a solid C1. Above all, I always had a good time. In addition to the classes, I thoroughly enjoyed the activities that CEC has to offer. I’ll always remember the evenings at the pub with live music and having a ball with my friends from around the globe. Wishing everyone all the best and hopefully we will see each other again one day.”
